Preoperative embolization of bone tumors (such as ABC and GCT)

An Aneurysmal bone cyst (ABC) is a highly destructive benign bone tumor. Giant cell tumor (GCT) is one of the most common benign bone tumors, with a high recurrence rate and a potential for aggressive behavior. Preoperative embolization of bone metastases is a relatively safe procedure and has been associated with low complication rates. Material is injected to block off the blood supply to the tumor. There are many different kinds of materials available for this, depending on the type of tumor, its location, and the size of the blood vessels. This is usually performed within a few days before surgery.
