Drainage of paravertebral abscesses

Paravertebral abscess is a common complication of spondylitis tuberculosis. The formation of abscess is due to the spread of infection from the vertebral bodies to the disc spaces and paravertebral soft tissues. A plastic drain tube (about as wide as a pencil) will be inserted. The tube will be secured on your skin with stitches and then covered with a dressing. A bag is usually added to the end of the tube to catch any fluid.
